On Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12, national
social skills educator, Jeff Veley, visited the Frankenmuth
School District. On Thursday evening, Jeff spoke to parents
at the Bronner Performing Arts Center. The focus of his
presentation was growing resiliency in children. He offered
useful tips and gave hints on how to stop sibling rivalry.
On Friday, October 12, Jeff presented to students at List
Elementary School and E.F. Rittmueller Middle School.
Students were highly engaged as Jeff shared his personal
experiences of kids bullying him, how he became more
resilient and explained to students how bullying is a game of
dominance behavior.
Students were taught two steps on how to combat
people who are mean to them.
1. Don't get upset
2. Treat them like a friend.
Responding in such a way takes practice and students can
use the peace sign to help them remember the two steps.
Jeff met with Frankenmuth School District staff on Friday
afternoon for three hours of professional development
focusing on how you cannot choose others actions, but you
can choose your reaction. You can learn more about Jeff's
message at www.jeffveley.com.
