Work Based Learning In 1957, Louis Weiss started "Work Based Learning" at FHS. Since that time, over 2,100 students have been placed in our community. Many of these placements lead to lifetime careers with the same business or organization. During work based learning, students explore careers in which they are interested, receive school credit, and sometimes even an hourly wage while they are practicing valuable interpersonal and job skills. The opportunities the Work Based Learning program gives them provides an advantage in an increasingly competitive job market. Ryan Ford, our Business/Marketing/Co-op teacher oversees fifteen students participating in the program. Juniors are currently signing up for the classes for Fall 2019 and considering this as an option for one of their elective courses. What Frankenmuth company has hosted the most students? a. Frankenmuth Insurance b. Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland c. Universal Engineering Frankenmuth Insurance has welcomed 136 students. Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland has hosted 115 students and Universal has worked with 100 students. "The Newsies" Seize the Day Starting in early November, directors, cast, orchestra and crew began the work of putting together their annual Muth Community Players production. They worked through rain, snow (lots of it) and sleet (lots of that also) to assemble an amazing "Newsies" show. Led by Bonnie VanVoorhees and Eric Johnson, over 130 people made "Newsies" possible. A 20-member construction crew built elaborate sets for the production. The 16-member seamstress team created original costumes for the cast of 64 actors and actresses. An 18-piece orchestra provided the music, and a 16-member production crew of Directors, Choreographers, Lighting, Sound, and Stage Hands scrutinized all those details of show. Our local theater succeeds because of the sponsorship of our area businesses and patrons. Students in our schools have the opportunity to experience another form of the arts with veteran musicians, talented community actors and skilled directors. We thank everyone for their continued support of our programs. 13
