W ellspring has been serving the families of Frankenmuth for more than 50 years. And much has changed in that time. It was Fall of 1969 that the Lutheran Home opened, and we've been privileged to serve families and seniors of this community ever since. In 1994, we began serving through our home care agency; shortly after that through our hospice program; and a few years later we added our personal assistance. I suppose if we could put a pin on a map of Frankenmuth for every family we've served over all these years, we likely would have a pin on most of the homes in town. Back when we started, even our name was different. Everyone knew us as the "Lutheran Home," but our official name was actually the "Evangelical Lutheran Homes Society for the Aged" — which didn't fit on a sign! Our name changed again in 2012 when Lutheran Homes of Michigan and Lutheran Child and Family Service of Michigan came together to become Wellspring Lutheran Services. But names and services aren't all that have changed. The needs of families and seniors have changed significantly. So we're set to change again, responding to the current and future needs of this community. With home health care, technology, personal support services, and specially designed housing to support caregiving, we can now help seniors stay in their home well into frailty, if needed. That's why Wellspring recently announced its partnership with Koester Builders to present Frankenmuth's first aging enhanced housing community called The Springs of Frankenmuth. It's a place where residents will be able to age on their terms, utilizing cutting edge design and technology, supported by family and caregivers, and remaining part of the community they love.
