While both may seem like a luxury, the air conditioning meant that I could teach and students could learn – from September to June. I believe that the 1999 Bond and our sinking fund paid for those improvements. The leaders in the Frankenmuth School District have been keeping "to do" lists for decades. We plan and we prioritize. Every project begins with one of three criteria – safety, energy efficiency, and repair all while keeping an ideal learning environment in mind. HVAC systems and controls, roofs, doors, entrances, lighting, parking lots and even our athletic facilities are closely analyzed for priority in the plan. A couple of years ago, we updated the High School gym with sinking fund monies. Visitors noticed the bleachers and the gorgeous floor. The bleachers enabled everyone to navigate more easily and the new floor provided new life for an old facility. However, the project really began with roofing and a new heating system and we worked off of our list from there. We upgraded the lighting, painted, and tackled the balcony. The Frankenmuth Athletic Association partnered with us to create a beautiful turf room in the balcony, which is now one of the most popular spaces on our campus. Teachers use it for physical education classes and coaches use it for specialized training. I'm proud that Frankenmuth continues to provide, to look ahead, take very good care of things – sometimes allowing us to use facilities well beyond their useful life. I'm glad we make lists. It's important to know where we are going. This Spring, the Frankenmuth School District is upgrading their phone system – from the original one – thanks to the Michigan State Police Matching Safety Grant awarded to the District. While my first phone at the District wasn't a rotary dial, I may just keep it for the memories. 27
