26 H iring and retaining quality employees has been cited by many local businesses as a top issue currently. The Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce is partnering up with Frankenmuth High School business teacher, Ryan Ford, to help educate businesses on one way they can take ownership of this growing issue. The Chamber & CVB had a great experience hiring a Frankenmuth High School senior for an internship this past school year that was mutually beneficial to the organization and the student. So when they learned there were struggles with the internship and co-op programs at the high school, and knowing that workforce development was such a big issue with local businesses, they decided to team up and offer an educational program for business to build awareness about how these programs can be a win-win. After the education program, the Chamber intends to help build a menu of options for students regarding the co-op and internship opportunities with member businesses. Businesses need not attend the educational program to be included and offer internships or co-op opportunities. They can contact Ashley Smith at projects@frankenmuth.org for more information on how to be listed. These opportunities will be shared with the students in the winter of 2020 as they prepare to select their classes for the 2020-2021 school year. Thus, these students won't be available to businesses until the fall of 2020. While it seems like a long time from now, it will be here before we know it. This type of pre-planning and coordination will help insure we are doing our part to bring quality work-based learning opportunities to our local students!
