B Y J A M I E F U R B U S H If you are involved in a particular profession, you may be aware of or even actively involved in an association related to that profession. When I began my career as a Sales Manager for the Frankenmuth CVB more than 17 years ago, I learned it was my responsibility to attend many Association meetings to represent our fine city, meet meeting planners and encourage them to bring their meetings & conventions to Frankenmuth. There was even an "Association of Associations" and that simply blew my mind at the time. Fast forward several years and I have learned that each association plays a critical role for its members often with education and networking or sharing best- practices. I have also come to appreciate the value of some of the associations we belong to, not only for gaining new meeting & convention business, but for gathering with other professionals who can share similar interests, challenges and solutions. Our new CVB Sales Manager, Lydia Wilder, recently attended the annual meeting of that "Association of Associations" I noted above. It was a great learning opportunity for her to begin to understand the big world of Meetings, Conventions and Associations and start building her own network for Frankenmuth. I also had the pleasure of recently attending a convention for Destinations International, a global association of Destination Marketing and Management Organizations of which the Frankenmuth CVB belongs. The theme of this convention and many of the topics covered were very helpful to me as I learned what the trends are for our industry and how we can "evolve and thrive" as a CVB and a destination. If you are a part of an association that has meetings in Michigan, consider helping to bring that business home to Frankenmuth. Contact Lydia at our office, she would love to help show you all we have to offer when meeting in Frankenmuth!
