Cross Park is located on M-83 on the south edge of the city, near the new Palmer Gateway Arch, and encompasses about 4 acres of mostly wooded land. Cross Park was acquired and developed in celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial (200th Anniversary). In 1976, the Frankenmuth Area Bicentennial Commission raised funds for lasting memorials in Frankenmuth. This commission actually created 3 living memorials in recognition of that milestone- the Cross in Cross Park, Willkommen Park at the corner of Tuscola & Main, and the Frankenmuth Community Foundation. The 50 ft tall Cross located in Cross Park is a lasting reminder of the nation's religious heritage and tradition of the Frankenmuth community. The Cross is especially visible when it is illuminated after dark. Cross Park offers a peaceful and scenic walking path through the woods and along the bank of the Dead Creek. Also on the site is Wolkensdoerfer Log House, an authentic Frankenmuth artifact built in the 1850's and moved to Cross Park in 1984. The Frankenmuth Historical Museum operates the Wolkensdoerfer Log House for historical & education programs. Check out this unique park next time you're looking for a new adventure in town. Exploring Frankenmuth Parks C R O S S P A R K 9 Fall Clean Up The City will announce the start of leaf pick up – usually in October. If you have leaves that fall before the City starts pick up of the leaves, you can put leaves and other yard waste into bags or containers for weekly Wednesday pickup. City of Frankenmuth residents receive weekly yard waste services as part of their curbside solid waste collection program. All yard waste materials must be placed in paper yard waste bags or in 20 gallon or smaller garbage cans with handles that have a "Yard Waste" sticker affixed to the front of the can. Yard waste stickers are available at City Hall and if you're purchasing a can, at GillRoy's and True Value. Please do not rake or sweep leaves into the street before leaf pick up. Do not place pumpkins, sticks, garden debris, etc. in leaf piles. Nothing should be swept into the curb/street other than leaves and only after leaf pick up officially begins. The City will continue brush service the first Monday of each month, from April through November. Brush placed should be larger piles (bigger than what fits in a yard waste container) or two inches or more in diameter. Please do not place twigs and small sticks at the curb for this pick up. These small piles or sticks should be placed in a bag or barrel for weekly pick up. Our yard waste program allows our City crews to be more efficient by stopping only at large brush piles. It also allows you to have the ability to dispose of sticks, twigs, vegetation and yard waste weekly on your normal trash day. If you have questions, please contact us at 989-652-9901.
