Levee Projects
After years of design, work is underway on the
levee. The flood protection project began in early
September and is expected to take about 15 months
to complete. The project is funded through the
Downtown Development Authority, the City and
impacted property owners Downtown. As part of
the improvements, the DDA is also constructing
a new Riverwalk. The contractor for the project is
Rohde Brothers. They are using the former Mill as
construction office for the duration of the project.
The project is generally broken into 3 phases:
• Gunzenhausen to the Mill
• The Mill to the Covered Bridge
• Covered Bridge to the end of the levee
(generally behind the Cheese Haus).
The contractor, Rohde Brothers, Inc., will begin at
Gunzenhausen Street and Rosstal and work east
toward Main Street. This portion of work is estimated
to be completed sometime this winter. During this
portion of the work, Gunzenhausen will be closed to
through traffic and used for construction staging and
materials storage. Work will also be performed along
the river side of Gunzenhausen Street. Construction
work is permitted from 7am to 8pm, Monday through
Saturday. The City may also give the contractor
permission, upon request, to work on Sundays.
