18 As a result of voter approved changes to Michigan Election Law in 2018, Michigan residents no longer need a reason to obtain an absentee voter's (AV) ballot. The Frankenmuth City Clerk's office maintains a permanent AV ballot listing (or AV Permanent List) whereby voters of the city may request to be placed on this Permanent List. Being on the list will qualify voters to be mailed an AV Application Request approximately 45 days prior to each Election. Upon receipt by the voter, he/she must complete and return the application to the Clerk in advance of the Election in order to receive a ballot by mail. Note: The next scheduled election is the Tuesday, March 10, 2020 Presidential Primary Election. Please be advised that if you are temporarily away and have requested the U.S. Postal Service to forward your mail to your temporary address, you will not receive your AV Ballot Application or Ballot. Any election mail that is sent to your permanent residence while you have your mail forwarded will be returned to the Clerk's Office. It is advised that you contact the Clerk's Office to ensure we have your phone number and/or email address information so that you can be contacted in the event election mail is returned to us prior to the election. Absent Voter Ballot Applications have a section to provide your temporary address so that ballots can be mailed directly to you if you are away from your permanent residence. Be sure to note the date you are leaving your home and date you will be returning home. Depending on the timing of mailing, we will determine if we need to mail to the temporary address or not. Clerk's Contact Information is as follows: 2020 ELECTIONS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 10TH, AUGUST 4TH & NOVEMBER 3RD CITY CLERK MAINTAINS A PERMANENT ABSENTEE VOTER BALLOT LIST Snowbirds are reminded that by law, Election Mail cannot be forwarded by the Post Office so voters must provide their Clerk with a forwarding address if they are leaving for the winter months.
