When asked what makes Frankenmuth unique, Stamiris responded quickly. "It's the invested owners we have in this community. They are the characters that personify the character of Frankenmuth. Our businesspeople live here, work here, and they take a day-to-day interest in their businesses and in their neighborhood. That just doesn't happen elsewhere." She went on to explain that Frankenmuth business owners understand that they are stronger when they work together. They are involved in the Chamber of Commerce and they are committed to participating in our schools, civic groups and community efforts. Stamiris is glad that the City's focus has turned toward the Cass River in the past few years. "The "Mighty Cass" was such an under appreciated resource and the improvements the City has done on the River are building connections between the public and the waterway." She said the projects of which she is most proud include the Fish Passage Project at the Cass River Dam and the soon to be open North Bank Riverwalk, a part of the Levee project. "Each was complicated and difficult and cost more than originally expected but each is totally worth it. When the dam removal/fish passage project was under construction, I'd watch as each huge rock was placed, and I knew we were doing the right thing. We were able to keep the river profile as it was, positively impact the eco-system and build a beautiful backdrop to one of the most scenic places in all of Michigan. Through the levee project, the community is safer, and we've got a delightful new destination on the north bank walkway. Residents and visitors are going to love spending time there." Sheila and husband Lynn are looking forward to traveling in their retirement. They also enjoy spending time with daughters Kara, Sarah, and Kaitlyn, and twin grandchildren Jamison and Louisa. We wish you the best, Sheila! Thanks for all you have done for Frankenmuth! Sheila and Lynn Stamiris hang out with their grandchildren, Jamison and Louisa.
