New Kid's Kingdom Playground As soon as this school year ends, work will begin on the construction of the new Kid's Kingdom playground at List Elementary School. The current Kid's Kingdom has served the District and the community well for close to twenty-five years. A design team from the District has been assembled to ensure that the new playground meets or exceeds the high standards of the original playground. The design is still in process, but will include a designated area with age-appropriate equipment for preschool children, areas with equipment suitable for older children, areas that are ADA accessible, and a separate artificial turf area for football, soccer and other outdoor playground activities. –––––––––––––––––––––– New Front Offices and Double-Entry Secured Access Another project that will take place after this school year ends will be the reconfiguration of the front offices at List Elementary School and E.F. Rittmueller Middle School and the installation of double-entry secured access doors. These are important safety and security upgrades to our buildings that will require that any visitor must first check in with the front office staff of each building before gaining access and entry. In order to achieve this reconfiguration at EFR, an expansion will occur at the west end of the building (near the main entrance) and the current front office space will be repurposed as office and learning space. E.F. Rittmueller Middle School Improvements Up to this point, the campus improvements have mostly centered on List Elementary School and exterior playground and athletic facilities. That will change this summer when the Middle School will be receiving a substantial face lift. In addition to the new front offices and double- entry secured access mentioned above, a new media center expansion and numerous interior renovations will also be completed at EFR. The new media center expansion will be located along the east side of the building, extending into the current soccer practice field. Similar to the new media center at List, the EFR media center will be designed with more functional spaces for students (e.g., collaborative learning and group meeting spaces). The interior renovations will involve kitchen improvements, as well as a complete refurbishment of the boys' and girls' gym locker rooms and the nearby restrooms. The existing media center will also be reconfigured to include separate rooms for small group meetings and instruction on the west side, with the existing computer lab to remain on the opposite side of the room. The last big interior renovation is the repurposing of the old industrial technology room. For years, this room has been used only as storage for unused items and has not been functional. The plan is to renovate the room so that it can be used as a large group meeting area and multi- purpose space for the administration, staff and students of all buildings and for community education. It is anticipated that all of the projects listed above, with the exception of the EFR media center expansion, will be completed by the start of the 2021- 2022 school year this fall. The target completion date for the EFR media center expansion is sometime in the last quarter of 2021, after the school year has begun. –––––––––––––––––––––– Frankenmuth High School Improvements Last, but not least, Frankenmuth High School will be the recipient of some long-awaited improvements. At the end of the 2021-2022 school year, three new projects will begin. First, the main office and main entrance of the building will be reconfigured to address the same safety and security issues addressed at the other buildings. Double-entry secured access doors will be installed that lead visitors to a check-in point before being able to access the interior of the school. Second, the media center will be completely renovated and refurbished. This area of the school has been largely untouched since its initial construction and is not updated to reflect the needs and optimal uses of current high school students. Third, renovations will be completed in the hallway and lobby adjacent to the gym, and in the boys' and girls' gym locker rooms. The renovations will involve the expansion of the building at the current lobby entrance and the creation of a dedicated area for concessions. The preliminary completion date target for the High School renovations is the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. >>> >>> 20
