Q: What would you like to see be different? A: If I were to compare the city to what it looked like when I came here, I think that it is much tougher for a family, especially one with children, to pack up and move here. There are very few housing opportunities available and in many cases, the housing market is not within the reach of many young families. I would like for there to be more opportunities for them. I think that a healthy city is one that is multi-generational. Young families and children are a very essential piece of a healthy community so we need to explore ways to make that happen. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Q: Can you describe a time when the city's spirit was captured? A: In March 2020 when the state shut down, the City Manager suggested that we pull together a task force since that's what we do in Frankenmuth - pull people together and figure out how to move forward. We said that we were going to include people from the Chamber, School District, Churches, Library, Emergency Workers, the Community Foundation, etc. I remember opening my zoom meeting and there were all of these people wanting to work to help the community. I thought "That's why I'm here, that's why I live here, that's why I'm the Mayor, and that's why I spent all of this time in the School District." It is because we recognize that there is a problem and that we're going to come together to do the best we can to make sure that we navigate ourselves in the best way that we can. It was truly a "we" in that moment. I thought of how special that was that in a time of crisis, we could come together in the spirit of Muth. That task force is just one example of how that happens here in our little city. Whenever I discuss it with other people outside of the city, they typically ask how we did that and how we pulled people together. For the city, there was no "how" you get them to come. It is because of that high expectation that threads the community together that they just show up. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– What is your interpretation of the interview?
