16 I t was with some trepidation that we started making arrangements for Summer 2021. For over a year, leaders had gone to great lengths to make plans, only to announce that we are "in a holding pattern" and eventually cancel the event. Thankfully, this summer, it appears that our plans will stick! List Elementary and Frankenmuth High School will be offering summer courses and credit recovery. List and EFR have set up learning opportunities that support reading, writing, and math for students. Building leaders had to show their creativity and flexibility when determining the location of the classes for List students. A new secure front entrance, additional classrooms, relocated library, new cafeteria, and updated flooring and windows means that nearly every space will be updated before the start of school in the fall. FHS opened their doors to our younger learners for their summer school classes. E.F. Rittmueller's construction timeline also begins this summer. While the administration does not anticipate the projected work to interfere with the summer school opportunities for students, they are excited about the changes that will be taking place over the next 18 months. Like List Elementary, EFR will undergo secure entrance changes, interior intervention room updates, a new media center, cafeteria/stage upgrades, and locker room and bathroom renovations. Frankenmuth High School will not only be the temporary home to the List Summer School program, but it will also be the landing spot for the District's Little Eagles Day Care program. For the last year, Director Carrie Johnson and Phil Martin have been making plans for the students so that care is not disrupted for families. Phil Martin states, "We have been fortunate to prepare a timeline for building renovations that allows us all to work together to continue with our programming. The more extensive work at the high school should begin in about a year." Frankenmuth Community Education has also expanded its programming this summer. An extensive list of classes and summer camps have been developed for those who are eager to learn new skills or enjoy favorite activities. Educational courses and sporting activities are available for preschool through adult students, both indoors and outdoors this summer. To learn more or register for a course please go online to fmuthschools.revtrak.net/ or contact Megan Carigan at mcarigan@fmuthschools.com or call 989-652-6351. Finally, our athletic teams are also making plans with workouts, practices, camps, and scrimmages. Feeling more secure, the coaches are excited to send out summer calendars to their players. While Summer 2020 was quiet and a bit eerie on campus, Summer 2021 offers the hope of brighter days and busier calendars! Brighter Days. Busier Calendars.
