...And we could not be more excited! 2020 brought us many challenges and changes, and one of the most noticeable changes to us was the cancellation of nearly all of our Frankenmuth festivals. Last year, we did not rock out to the music of the 80's, dance around the maypole, or find a new dream car while walking through Heritage Park. We weren't able to enjoy our favorite summer music or celebrate our German heritage, and let me tell you, we missed it! But while plans were cancelled and put on hold for a season, the local festival organizers were working around the clock to make sure that they were doing everything in their power to bring back festival fun in 2021! With over 15 large annual festivals a year, Frankenmuth has been put on the map as an event destination! People all across the state and country travel here throughout the year to take in a little extra fun. What many may not realize is that nearly all of our festivals are run by local organizations and planners that volunteer their extra time to put together these memorable moments. Hours and hours of planning go into each event to make sure that everyone not only has a fun time, but also that things run smoothly and safely. While our festival organizers love to throw a good party, they also love to give to a good cause. Many of the festivals donate their proceeds to help charities and causes in the surrounding area. Did you know that the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl supports charitable endeavors, such as police canine training programs to promote safer communities, and fund pet-related military and service organizations? How about 80's Fest? The proceeds of that event go to cancer related causes such as The American Cancer Society and Frankenmuth Relay for Life. Don't forget Frankenmuth Autofest. It is so much more than one of the largest car shows in the state – it is a charitable festival that has donated over $1.8 million dollars to local schools, churches, hospitals, and groups, such as the Lions Club and VFW. The list of charitable donations made by our local festivals goes on and on. None of these events and donations would be possible without the help of our local volunteers. From ticket sales, to concessions, to answering questions – Every festival depends on the help of volunteers from the community. Without them, it wouldn't be possible. Your time is helping train a dog, providing research to cancer patients, or building new community projects all around the area. And I promise, you will have fun doing so! Now more than ever, our festivals need your help. To make sure that festivals come back in a fun and safe way, volunteers are needed like never before! If you would like to volunteer for a festival, you can sign up at muthserves.com or visit the website of the specific festival you are interested in helping. For a complete list of festivals and events please visit frankenmuth.org/events. Festival fun IS back, and nothing will stop the momentum our organizers have rolling forward. We can't wait to hang out in our German best and say "Cheers" at events once again. B Y L Y D I A W I L D E R BA C K! Festival Fun If you have never voluntred for a festival - I encourage you to do so! Chances are, your time is helping with much more than directing guests and answeng questions.
