Frankenmuth lineman Michael Carter
Hits the Right Note for Eagles
When Frankenmuth took on Essexville Garber Friday, October 15th
Michael Carter expected a double dose of butterfl ies. But it had
nothing to do with potential conference titles or playoff points or
matchups with longtime rivals. The senior defensive lineman did
double-duty Friday, even though didn't play on offense. Instead, he
played at halftime.
Carter is a starting defensive lineman for a Frankenmuth team that
is 7-0 and ranked second in the Associated Press Division 5 rankings.
But he's also a drum major for the Frankenmuth marching band,
giving him the opportunity to lead the band in two songs during
halftime.
"I get the same kind of butterfl ies before each," Carter said. "Before a
game, I get butterfl ies until I get out there and start playing. It's the
same way with band. I get butterfl ies before a performance, but once
we start, they go away. Being in the band, conducting the band has a
lot of similarities and parallels to playing on the football team. Both
have that philosophy of being one team, one family … that you're part
of something bigger than yourself."
He's one of two drum majors, with Olivia Borsenik, for the
Frankenmuth marching band. He plays the bassoon and bass guitar.
