4 Straight F R O M T H E City Keeping Michigan's Little Bavaria in tip top shape is a full time job. Help your neighborhood look its best and stay safe by reading some of the latest notices and updates from the City of Frankenmuth. P A R K I N G R E S T R I C T I O N S A R E I N E F F E C T The City's priority when clearing streets is safety. For that reason, we ask that you please park vehicles in residential driveways and leave the streets clear for plows. No vehicles should be parked in the streets from 2 am to 6 am November 1st through April 30. Plows are unable to clear streets e ciently when vehicles are parked on city streets during snowfall. The City has established priority and secondary routes for plowing. Primary streets are major streets within the City that experience high tra c volumes, including Genesee, Je erson, Main and Franklin Streets. The City plows these major streets and those with hills, fi rst. During heavy snow, crews may have to clear primary streets again which may delay snow removal on secondary streets (typically within neighborhoods). Snow plowing and removal services on secondary streets begin once primary routes have been cleared. The City may send plows onto secondary local streets, depending upon current and forecasted weather conditions. Salting and deicing e orts are typically applied to local streets when appropriate, based on current and forecasted conditions. Although the City does not have an ordinance requiring sidewalks to be cleared, the City has a number of residents that walk throughout the winter. The City encourages property owners to remove snow from sidewalks. If you have a private snow plowing contractor remove your snow, please ask them to not pack or pile snow at sidewalk openings. Recycle your broken, old, or out of style holiday string lights this season and put some sparkle back into your holiday! Residents can drop o their lights at the Frankenmuth City Township Governmental Center. Over the six years of the popular project, nearly six tons of unwanted holiday lights were collected, keeping thousands of strings of lights out of the landfi ll. When deposited in a landfi ll, it takes between 100 and 1,000 years for holiday lights to decompose, but through the recycling drive old lights will fi nd new life. All sizes, styles and colors of indoor and outdoor string lights can be donated. Only string lights – not other lighted holiday decorations – can be accepted. The lights will be processed by Rifkin Scrap Metal and Iron, a local company that will send the constituent materials to a processor. The refi ned materials will then move on to manufacturers to be used in new products.Rifkin is providing a rebate for the lights, with all proceeds going to the CAN (Child Abuse and Neglect) Council. Residents should not place holiday lights in their recycling bins or cans at home, as they are not an item accepted through the MMWA curbside recycling program. Continued on Page 6
