12 New Reasons to Celebrate E.F. Rimueer Mile Schl During the summer of 2022, a group of educators at E.F. Rittmueller Middle School came together with a mission of focusing on the well-being of all students. As the discussion began, more and more ideas poured onto the paper. The ideas all formed around helping our students as individuals and as school and community leaders. Developing social emotional lessons, creating a Student of the Month program, and generating engaging school-wide activities are some of the new events for this school year. One of the first ideas that came to fruition was social emotional lessons implemented in the physical education classes. Students would meet one time a month with Mr. Kanine in PE, and they would learn a variety of skills including respect, responsibility, empathy, sportsmanship, and integrity. For these lessons, Mr. Kanine wanted to utilize new equipment; after he taught the lesson, the students would take their knowledge about sportsmanship, respect, and responsibility use the equipment on the playground. The Frankenmuth Jaycees provided E.F.R. with a grant to pay for the games. Students are now able to play cornhole, Can Jam, Bocce Ball, and Volleyball outside daily. They are using their skills to support one another during the games, to follow the rules, and to take care of the equipment properly when they finish. The students have been so excited to have more to do at recess, and they have loved learning a variety of new games. Another new program has been created to celebrate individual achievements and growth this year, too. In October we presented our first Students of the Month at E.F. Rittmueller. Each month from October to May E.F.R. will present four students - one per grade - with the accolade of Student of the Month. Each student will be presented with a gift, a certificate of excellence, and recognition at the Frankenmuth Board of Education meeting and on social media. The first two months have seen students nominated for their overall kindness, improvement in grades, positive attitude, and exceptional work-ethic. The community has been extremely supportive with their donations of gifts for the students. True Value Hardware gifted the program water bottles, the Frankenmuth Lions Club donated gift cards, and the Chamber of Commerce will be providing ice skating passes. Parents and students love seeing the photos of the well-deserving students on the E.F. Rittmueller Middle School Facebook page. School-wide programs like Mix-it-Up lunch, creating cards during the holidays, a food drive, and a talent show are on the horizon for later this year. Overall, we want to encourage our E.F. Rittmueller students to be leaders in school and in the community. It has been a great start to the school year, and we are excited to see all of the new programs continue to grow.
