9 MIWLA Recognizes Jason Paetz's Excellence The Frankenmuth Chamber & CVB's Annual Kickoff Dinner will be held at Zehnder's of Frankenmuth on Friday, January 19, 2024. We will celebrate our many successes, look ahead in hope, and honor deserving members of our community with Honorary Memberships. We hope you will join us! S A V E T H E D A T E CHAMBER & CVB MEMBERS Jason Paetz, Spanish teacher at Frankenmuth High School, received the Michigan World Language Association (MIWLA) High School Teacher of the Year Award October 19th at MIWLA's annual conference in Lansing. Paetz was also honored with the MIWLA Distinguished Service Award. The MIWLA Teacher of the Year Awards honor the accomplishments of exemplary K-12 World Language teachers. Each year, one elementary, one middle school, and one high school teacher may be recognized with this award. The Distinguished Service Award is given in recognition of exemplary service to the Michigan World Language Association and/or the world language teaching profession at large. Paetz has taught all levels of Spanish as well as U.S. and World History. He has led multiple student travel groups to Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Panama. Paetz considers his classroom a laboratory for teaching innovation, allowing him to discover and refine techniques that he then shares with colleagues at MIWLA's annual conference. In addition to his frequent and highly-rated presentations at the conference, he has served the organization in a variety of committee chair positions. Paetz also serves the profession as President of the Michigan Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Paetz graduated from Alma College in 2000 with a B.A. in Spanish, and earned a Master of Secondary Classroom Teaching from Saginaw Valley State University in 2011. The Michigan World Language Association is a state association for language education professionals from all levels of instruction and representing all languages. MIWLA supports and promotes world language education through innovative opportunities for professional development and networking, and seeks to advance World Language proficiency for all students.
