So, What Do We Do at Wickson? At Wickson, our team is constantly busy ensuring the library runs smoothly and meets the needs of our community. Here's a glimpse of our daily activities: Book Orders and Processing We research, order, and process over 200 new books each month. This involves cataloging them and getting them out on the shelves for you to enjoy. Customer Service With over 400 people visiting daily, we help patrons find books, check books in and out (nearly 300 items each day), ensure books are properly placed back on the shelves, print, scan, fax, and copy documents, answer questions, give directions, and assist with technology needs. Interlibrary Loans We handle over 700 books each month that are either coming into our library for our patrons or going out to other libraries. This involves finding the books, properly packing them to avoid damage, and shipping them to the correct locations. Program Planning We spend a lot of time researching and planning programs for children, teens, and adults. A single one-hour program can take about five hours to plan and prepare, including coordinating and promoting programs, getting supplies, and preparing snacks. How the Library Saves You Money In the 2023/2024 fiscal year alone, we saved our patrons nearly 1 million dollars in checkouts, $975,475.00 to be exact. But that's not all! Here are some other ways the library can save you money: Online Resources Access to Consumer Reports and Ancestry databases through MEL (Michigan eLibrary). Michigan Activity Pass Get discounted or free admission to thousands of activities with your library card. You can access both MEL and MAP (Michigan Activity Pass) from our website: wicksonlibrary.org Free Services We offer free faxing, scanning, and once-a-month shredding services (up to one paper bag). Printing services and soon Notary services will be available for a small fee. Everyone at Wickson enjoys books, but we do not read at work. However, being surrounded by books and the wonderful people who visit our library every day is awesome.
