6 WAYFINDING IN LITTLE BAVARIA Over the last month you may have noticed new signs going up around town, and while the signs may have appeared overnight, the process to get them here took much longer than that! These signs are the product of a two-year Wayfinding project spearheaded by the Frankenmuth DDA. Made up of four tasks: Analysis, System Design, Documentation, and Implementation, this Wayfinding project took an in-depth look at how to provide better signage to move visitors and locals around town. The Frankenmuth DDA, with the help of the Frankenmuth CVB, worked with Corbin Design from Traverse City to take a closer look at how pedestrian and vehicular traffic moves within our two square-mile town. The result of this work is a carefully crafted signage plan that provides unique information to drivers and pedestrians. The signs not only feature targeted information, but also present it in a way that is uniquely Frankenmuth. The complete Wayfinding plan features a total of 19 different sign types, each showcasing a design that is bright, clean, and modern while reflecting the German/European influences Frankenmuth is known for. Pictured to the left is one of the Vehicular Guide designs. The Wayfinding plan also includes a variety of new types of signage including informational kiosks, overhead district signs, more pedestrian maps, and pedestrian fingerposts. All of these new signs work together to help share a consistent message throughout Frankenmuth, helping guide people and discover new places along the way!
