Now in the 5th year, the Christmas Experience has been transformational for the holiday time in Frankenmuth. The Spectacular Tree Show was introduced in the height of the pandemic in 2020, and in 2021, the Ice Rink was added, which has given Zehnder Park the Hallmark movie vibe. We added a custom-made German pyramid for Santa and the Train, as well as a traditional candle arch to align with our Bavarian roots. The businesses continue to get involved with their complementing décor, Stop & Snap locations, and special events throughout the entire season. When people used to ask, "Besides Bronner's, what makes Frankenmuth a Christmas town?" we could only point to the Holiday Celebration & Candlewalk the day after Thanksgiving, which was one of the busier days of the year. And now, only five years later, no matter what day you're ready for holiday cheer, the town is full of things to see and do to get you in the spirit. This is great for those of us blessed to live in Frankenmuth, especially when hosting family and friends for the holidays. Christmas Guides and new Driving Tour Maps are available at the Visitor Center, 7 days a week, and information about events is also always available at the calendar on frankenmuth.org. By Jamie Furbush, CEO, Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce & CVB The growth of the Christmas Experience has helped us be able to add a special event for our local community. The Local Light the Night was held on Tuesday, November 19 for friends, neighbors, and sponsors to gather and celebrate the kickoff to the season together on a day that is traditionally not as busy with visitors. Last year, an old favorite tradition was ignited at the Local Night when a Candlewalk was added along the Riverwalk. It was a beautiful and peaceful night for the walk that was led by our late, great Mayor Mary Anne Ackerman and Chamber/CVB President, Jamie Furbush. This year, Mary Anne's family joined Furbush in leading the candlewalk in honor and remembrance of her support and leadership in helping the Christmas Experience grow, while finding intentional ways to make it special for our local community. Mary Anne was a true Champion of the Christmas Experience and sat on the committee from its beginning. But more than just on this special night, she was a steadfast leader and storyteller. She listened with intention to hear others' stories and then shared them in her own special way to help us learn from one another and grow appreciation for our neighbors and all that work together to make Frankenmuth the uniquely special place it is. Her work and legacy were interconnected with the Chamber of Commerce and CVB dating back to 2006 when she was the Superintendent of the Frankenmuth Schools. The Chamber & CVB presented Mary Anne's husband, Harry Zells, an Honorary Membership in her honor at Local Night as well. Her impact and legacy will continue to live on for generations to come in Frankenmuth. Local Night Shines in Memory of Mary Anne Ackerman 16
