Born to Read By Mrs. Emmons, Early Learning Specialist, Frankenmuth Wickson District Library T here is something truly magical about welcoming a brand-new baby into the world—and into our library family. At the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library, we believe that a love of reading begins long before a child can read on their own. It begins in the quiet moments when a caregiver cuddles their baby and shares a story, sings a gentle rhyme, or turns the pages of a brightly colored board book together. Those small moments grow into something powerful: language, curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning. With that in mind, we are so excited to introduce our Born to Read Bags, made possible through the generosity of a grant from Molina Healthcare. These special welcome bags are available to families anytime in the baby's first year. Inside each bag, families will find a carefully chosen board book, a cute animal bath towel and other useful gis, helpful information about our library programs, and simple ideas for fostering early literacy at home. Our hope is that these bags serve as a warm invitation to new families, an open door to a place where their children can grow, learn, and feel a true sense of belonging. Aer spending sixteen years teaching kindergarten here in Frankenmuth, I have seen firsthand how powerful those earliest experiences with books and language can be. Children who grow up hearing stories, singing songs, and visiting the library develop confidence, curiosity, and a deep connection to reading. The Born to Read Bags are one small way we can support families in creating those beautiful routines; snuggling up with a book before bedtime, singing songs during diaper changes, and making regular visits to the library part of family life. To the families in our community: we are so glad you're here. Your library is a place where babies are celebrated, where wiggly little ones and curious caregivers are always welcome, and where the journey of reading begins. We cannot wait to meet your newest little readers and grow alongside your family for many chapters to come.
