Street Improvements Crews from Ace Saginaw Paving prepared and laid new asphalt on 10 City streets in less than one week. The paving company applied "thin mix asphalt overlay." The streets were not milled or removed, but instead cleaned and then the thin mix was applied to the street. It is somewhat similar to the chip seal process except this is a more appropriate application for urban areas. Streets that were part of the improvement project include: Kleiner Street, Rupprecht Court, Krafft Court, Oxford Knoll (Court), Leslie Drive between Hamilton and Country Lane, Country Lane, Northview, Wren Road, Sunburst Drive between East Genesee Street and Eastgate Drive. Every year the City prioritizes capital improvements including maintenance. These streets were identified last year as candidates for road improvements given their age, wear and pending maintenance issues. The thin mix overlay will help extend the life of the streets. Once the main is chlorinated and the water samples pass, crews will work on connecting the new main and disconnecting and abandoning the old main. Toward the end of August, construction crews will also install hydrant culverts and do "clean up" work. Clean up consists of grading the drainage ditch, and restoring the gravel shoulder. Seeding the disturbed areas on Junction Road are very weather dependent and will most likely not take place until the first part of September. Work on Dehmel Road is underway. The twelve inch main is installed first and then has to be chlorinated and pressure tested. Once this is complete, water services will be installed toward the end of August. The last part of the project will include pavement and restoration. At this time, it is anticipated that the project may be completed slightly ahead of scheduled. The original date for substantial completion was October 5. The City thanks residents and motorists for their patience during construction. 9
