Frankenmuth Represents at Michigan Cares for Tourism Michigan Cares for Tourism invests in Michigan's most valuable treasures... our people and our historic attractions. The state-wide effort to "give-back" to the tourism industry is a partnership with Grand Valley State University, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Tourism Cares, Travel Michigan as well as many tourism businesses and organizations from around the state. Industry professionals participate in clean-up efforts to help restore and preserve many historic sites and parks. Sponsors provide the resources needed for the supplies and the effort is 100% volunteer, meaning all the resources go directly to the goals of the project. The group has improved over half a dozen locations in the past 5 years and Frankenmuth, as a leader in Michigan's Tourism Industry, has been involved since the beginning and had a presence at every event. Not only a sponsor of the effort, the Convention & Visitors Bureau along with a number of tourism-based businesses including Bavarian Inn Lodge, SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Zehnder's of Frankenmuth have all sent employees to serve at past events. The most recent event took place in the Copper Harbor area of Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. Fort Wilkin's Historic State Park was a very well tended park, however, volunteers and donors were able to complete 23 clean-up and restoration projects. Most of the events include painting and landscaping projects and this one also included a roof repair project that our Frankenmuth CVB President, Jamie Furbush was able work on. Peggy Reinhardt, the Office and Visitor Center Manager of the Chamber and CVB took apart and rebuilt a number of picnic tables for future guests. Visit their website at gvsu.edu/michigancaresfortourism to see all the projects that have been completed by Michigan Cares for Tourism. Consider a visit to one of these great state sites in the future and be proud of how your local community gives back throughout the entire state of Michigan.
