Residents do not need to remove ornaments, tinsel, garland or other decorative items, and trees can be put to the curb with or without a tree bag. Trees that are frozen to the ground or covered with snow will not be collected until they can be safely accessed by the driver. Large or heavy trees may have to be picked up by the bulk truck, and in those cases, trees will be collected within two days of the resident's regular service day. The service applies only to real Christmas trees that have been used as indoor holiday décor. State law prohibits yard waste and vegetation from being disposed of in the landfill however, the ban does not apply to Christmas trees. Winter Walking Frankenmuth Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that Harvey Kern Pavilion in Heritage Park will be open again this winter for walking and jogging. Beginning Monday, November 26th, the Pavilion will be open to the community free of charge Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 11:30am. Frankenmuth High School will also be open Monday thru Thursday from 4pm to 8pm for walkers. Please use the Northeast doorway to enter. Frankenmuth Parks & Recreation promotes healthy and active lifestyles, encouraging people to make walking part of their daily routine. While Frankenmuth residents value the well-maintained sidewalks around town and regularly use them for exercise during the warmer months, this is an effort to give people a place to walk in the winter, where they don't need to worry about snow or ice. One lap around the Pavilion equals 1/9 of a mile. Strollers are welcome, however, rollerblades, bikes, etc. are not allowed. During inclement weather, if Frankenmuth Schools are closed due to weather concerns, hall walking at FHS will be closed as well as Harvey Kern Pavilion. For more information, contact Frankenmuth Parks & Recreation at 989-652-3440.
