On Friday, May 3rd, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape
association presented an award to the City of Frankenmuth
for its Streetscaping Project on Main Street. The "Community
Landscape Beautification Award" recognizes that the City of
Frankenmuth and its Beautification Committee has done an
"outstanding job investing in beautification, best practices
in landscape management, sustainability, community
involvement and impact."
The presenting body, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape
Association, has been a part of our beautiful state since
1922, and is "united to advocate professionalism, integrity
and growth for Michigan's green industry." The MNLA cited
a number of specific pedestrian enhancements that helped
Frankenmuth stand out from other nominees. The specifically
identified the wider sidewalks and landscaping between the
sidewalk and street it enables people walking to feel safer
and more comfortable.
"Frankenmuth represents place-making at its finest," noted the
award information, "with thousands of plantings, hundreds
of trees, dozens of benches, pocket parks, sculptures and
fountains."
