While it can be messy and inconvenient, construction means people are investing in the community demonstrating economic vitality. If you take time to look around Frankenmuth, you'll notice that it's a pretty exciting time. There is a lot of construction and investment happening. Some of it includes existing businesses renovating to keep their property fresh and modern such as the McDonald's of Frankenmuth remodel, Zak & Mac's Chocolate Haus porch/ramp project and Zehnder's Splash Village's new retractable roof. Other businesses are expanding their existing footprint like the beautiful new space being added at Rapunzel's Boutique's. Construction of Uptown North Main's next phase also demonstrates demand for locations and new businesses that wish to enter our area. Some improvements are fun to watch as you drive by such as the mural that is being painted on the southern exterior of the Frankenmuth Toy Company while other new offerings happen behind closed doors like new vacation rentals coming along Main Street. Most of these projects take a long time to plan as well as construct. Again, sometimes you see the construction and sometimes you don't. Such is the case with the new Figurinespiel characters that will be added to Frankenmuth Cheese Haus. They have been artfully crafted at an off-site location and will be ready for their Grand Opening on June 22 at 1:30pm after they've been placed in the tower. By no means is this a complete list of all active construction or improvement projects. In fact, there are also homes being built, others we aren't yet aware of and yet more that could potentially begin in the time it takes to print this publication. Regardless, they are all good reason to celebrate! Recently, we cut a ribbon on two new business at the Top of the Hill on Main Street, Kernel Benny's Popcorn and Frankenmuth House of Cigar. Ribbon Cutting events are always open to the public and a great way to show appreciation of someone's investment in your community, so feel free to stop in anytime you see the Chamber's Ribbon Cutting sign outside of a business. In just a few short minutes, you can make someone's day by congratulating them on their new endeavor and taking moments to glance around at what they bring to the community. Every one of us can be ambassadors for our town and all the great things we have to offer. An overwhelming majority of our businesses are locally owned, so every new business, expansion or improvement is personal and when you take time to notice, it matters to them. Their investments matter to all of us as we enjoy a vibrant and economically healthy community! CONSTRUCTION: A POSITIVE SIGN? Believe it or not, a sign of a healthy community is construction! 11
