AUTO FEST HELPS MAKE SWEET MUSIC AT FSD By Eric Clauder The Frankenmuth Auto Fest is an event of incredible magnitude. Its scale, influence, community involvement, and charitable nature make it unique from any other event of its kind. Thousands of visitors from across the state and country come together each September to enjoy and appreciate what the Auto Fest and Frankenmuth have to offer. Almost all leave with a smile on their face. In my 11 years in the Frankenmuth School District, the Auto Fest has donated almost $120,000 to the Band Program, and many thousands of dollars beyond that in years previous. Over and above a simple dollar amount, it is hard to calculate the true value of the relationship between the Frankenmuth Band Program and the Auto Fest. Such valuable aspects include a high level of community involvement, the development of leadership, connection between families, and economic benefits for the city, just to name a few. The band program alone provided 110 volunteers for the 2019 Auto Fest, contributing to a several hundred-strong volunteer team. The spirit of volunteerism that has developed over the years has made a huge positive impact on our community. People who have been working this event for years gladly volunteer time after time, and it carries over into many other wonderful local events throughout the year. The generosity of the Auto Fest is reflected in the financial support it gives so many organizations, as well as their commitment to our community and the betterment of all. It is a testament to how truly successful this event is. The Auto Fest provides the vast majority of the operating budget for the Band program. Over the years, we have been able to purchase much needed instruments, music, chairs, stands, sound equipment, repair supplies and tools, organizational implements, and other necessary items. Three years ago, we were able to purchase a brand-new drumline and drum harnesses for the Marching Band. Our program flourishes in large part due to this relationship.
