Dear Mrs. Martin,
I think that Swifts live in the chimney
at the school. We were reading a
book called 'Return of the Swifts' in Reading
Camp. In the book, the writer tells about a
school in Portland, Oregon. At Chapman
School, Swifts in September go and stay in the
chimney.
What are Swifts, you ask?
Swifts are a kind of bird and they live almost
everywhere. They fly all day long without
stopping. Mrs. Martin, do not be afraid! Let
me tell you why Swifts are good for the school
and Frankenmuth. Swifts eat flying insects –
thousands every day. Please do not cover up the
chimney; you will kill the Swifts and then bugs
will be all over Frankenmuth.
Here is a picture of Chapman School where
people gather in September. At night, people
gather around the school and watch the Swifts
fly around the chimney and fly in. If you want to
learn more about the Swifts, go to Mrs. Zimba's
class and ask for me.
Your friend,
Abigail
