The Memorial Cup is the National Championship of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and hosting it in the USA is an honor that hasn't taken place in more than two decades. The Saginaw Spirit leadership team has partnered with community leaders at all levels in an effort to put forth a competitive bid to host this incredible 13-day event that is anticipated to draw $20-$30 Million in economic impact to our region. At the end of March, it was announced that Saginaw, Michigan had been awarded the opportunity to host the 2024 Memorial Cup. Frankenmuth is an important part of the greater Saginaw County community that are working together to host this event. It's an incred- ibly big event to host in our region and Frankenmuth will be a critical piece of the hosting plan as we prepare to house not only teams, officials, and important staff of the league but also tens of thousands of visitors that will come from across Canada and the US to be a part of this event. The Convention & Visitors Bureau has committed to partner with the Saginaw Spirit in this endeavor. At the press conference, Craig Goslin, Managing Partner of the Saginaw Spirit, shared his appreciation to a long list of community leaders and partners, including the Frankenmuth CVB, that helped him and the Great Lakes Bay CVB put together the winning bid. The event will run from May 22-June 3, 2024. The first weekend is Memorial Weekend which is always busy in Frankenmuth due to our annual Dog Bowl and Balloons Over Bavarian Inn events and a number of the hotels have already secured the required rooms to house the necessary league delegates. Fans will enjoy coming to experience Frankenmuth between games that weekend due to the fun festivities we already have planned. Those making their plans later will likely have to seek hotels in adjacent communities during the first weekend, however, the tournament excitement builds as the week goes along. Thus, the second weekend, which will feature the Tournament Championship game, is expected to garner peak visitation for hockey fans. There are many details such as a complex transportation plan and additional fan festivities being worked out, but the word has already spread throughout Canada that Michigan will host this nationally televised sporting event. The Memorial Cup is one of the most coveted trophies in hockey. To learn more about what this opportunity means for our region and Frankenmuth, members of the Chamber of Commerce welcome the local community to attend the Morning Mingle on May 11th at 7:30am at Zehnder's of Frankenmuth, where Craig Goslin will speak about the event and its impact. To purchase tickets to the Frankenmuth Chamber Morning Mingle, email membership@frankenmuth.org. Pre-registration is $20, $25 at the door and includes breakfast. On-site tickets may not be available. The Memorial Cup comes to Saginaw & Frankenmuth!
