T he German Heritage Commiee, a commiee of the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce, works to celebrate, preserve and promote Frankenmuth's Bavarian Heritage. The Commiee focuses on ways to educate and help individuals experience German culture. It also looks for ways to enhance the German language program, and partners with Frankenmuth's Sister City and school programs. The group is excited to launch a program to make lanterns inspired by St. Martin's Day in Germany, which will be used to lead the candlewalk during the Local Light the Night event on Tuesday, November, 18, 2025. Children in grades 1-4 at St. Lorenz will be making paper mache lanterns and families will be reminded to bring them along to Local Light the Night where a lantern holder/light will be supplied for the walk. German teachers from both St. Lorenz and the Frankenmuth Schools are on the German Heritage Commiee and working to share opportunities to make lanterns with local families. • The Sister City Commiee will lead a "make your own lantern" event on Sunday, November 16 from 3-5pm in the City Training Center (210 N. Franklin). The cost to participate is $4 but the first 25 are free! • The Frankenmuth Historical Museum will also provide an opportunity to make lanterns on Wednesday, November 12 from 5-7pm in Fischer Hall for the same $4 cost, with the first 25 free!
