Spring is the time of year that I observe a great deal of excitement at our schools. One group that is especially enthusiastic is our seniors. They will soon be making the transition from students to alumni. Unsure of what awaits them, I am confident that their participation in FSD academics, extra-curriculars and athletics will support them as they forge their path. They have been exposed to AP courses, dual enrollment, co-op employment, local skill centers and job shadowing connections, which provide safe avenues not only to explore, but in some cases, to earn credit or certification toward their future "path." I've been excited to listen to them as they passionately talk about how these opportunities helped to solidify their post high school plans. It has been just as valuable to learn that these experiences helped our students determine what wasn't meant for them. Our newsletter shares a few of the ways that students plan for their future. While we take time to honor the achievements of our seniors, it's just as important to celebrate the "small things" happening elsewhere in the District. In February, both List Elementary and EF Rittmueller Middle School focused their attention on kindness, reinforcing the habit of thinking of others, and encouraging our message of "A Place for All." In fact, we take time each year to measure this in our buildings. Administrators ask parents, staff and students to complete extensive surveys. e following statement is addressed every year: Our school provides a safe learning environment. In each building, over 90% of parents and students either strongly agreed or agreed with this statement in the 2017-2018 surveys. Each staff member works hard to build a climate where students can confidently ask questions and take risks. We are pleased that the feedback from parents and students regarding this statement is overwhelmingly positive. Finally, I continue to be amazed at the role that our local community members and businesses play in this process of "growing our kids." In February, area businesses set up booths to meet "future employees" during their lunchtime. Over 100 students were able to ask questions, talk summer schedules and even practice job skills. They left with applications, tips for applying for jobs and work permit guidelines and a feeling of a thrilling and successful experience just having been handed to them. Local business owners have stressed that they want to hire our students and are willing to work around school, athletic and extra- curricular schedules. The Frankenmuth School District has partnered with the City of Frankenmuth and the Chamber of Commerce to develop a workforce readiness plan that will serve all. We want our students to have opportunities to start their first jobs and perhaps build their careers in or around the Frankenmuth community. We recognize that their first job certainly won't be the last, but the job fair was a great place to begin. From the Desk of the Superintendent, Adele Martin 446 S.
